ST20 is a premium aromatic rice variety often regarded as the “Vietnamese Basmati” thanks to its long, slender grains, soft texture, and distinctive pineapple-like aroma when cooked. Originating from Soc Trang Province and developed by engineer Ho Quang Cua, ST20 is bred from specialty fragrant rice lines with superior taste and high nutritional value. Grown up to three crops per year in Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, and other Mekong Delta provinces, ST20 has a growing cycle of 107–113 days and shows good resistance to salinity, pests, and common rice diseases. The grains average 7.6 mm in length, are white with low chalkiness, and have low amylose content, resulting in soft, fragrant rice ideal for premium household consumption and export markets.
